HERR Will Bring $5.6 Million to Local Economy in 2000

HERR Industrial, Inc., an industrial manufacturer specializing in paint finishing systems, with fabrication plants in Lancaster and Lebanon, has been awarded contracts from three different manufacturers in Mexico. In total, they represent $5.6 million worth of export revenue for the state of Pennsylvania. Timothy Herr, the company's President, made the announcement Tuesday, at a ceremony as HERR Industrial, Inc. received the Pennsylvania State Governor's Export Excellence Award for 1999.
"This is a real victory for Pennsylvania, and for Lancaster and Lebanon Counties", said Thomas Herr, Vice president and General Manager of HERR. "Exporting goods and services means that, instead of money just changing hands within a community, the influx of money is actually added to the income of the local population," said HERR.
Inter-Metro Industrial Corp., a wire rack-shelving manufacturer with headquarters in Wilkes-Barre, PA, will build a facility in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico. General Electric Corporation's Industrial Controls Division, will pay HERR to fabricate and install the company's paint system for electrical distribution equipment, at a plant located in Saltillo.
The largest deal of the three, with Caterpillar, Inc., is a contract for a paint system for components of the new, monster sized mining trucks that, when full, are 40% heavier than a 747 jet! <see photo>
Pennsylvania ranks 10th nationwide in total export dollars. In the years between 1995 and 1998, Pennsylvania companies exported $20.8 billion in goods and services, a 31% increase. "We are in the business fight of our lives," said Lt. Governor Mark Schweiker, as he addressed the attendees at the Export Excellence Award ceremony, Tuesday. "and we're winning".
Pennsylvania has 16 representatives around the globe, who assist businesses that want to enter the international marketplace, providing information that ranges from helping to determine the marketability of a company's product, to providing potential partners for the venture. |
